Troubleshooting:auto repair loop

auto repair loop

I just bought an HP laptop with Windows 8 on it about a week and a half ago.  I powered it down yesterday, and later on in the evening when I turned it back on it now goes into the auto repair loop, giving me the frowny face.  It shows the frown for 3
seconds, then acts like it's going to reboot, then the frown again, and so on for an endless loop.  There is no option to stop it or do any kind of special boot, even if I hit F2 or the power button or whatever else.  It has been cycling for 3 hours now doing
the same thing.  A boot disk or system disk did not come with it, so I can't use a CD boot.  How can I just get it to simply boot normally?

Hi,

You are getting Blue Screen Error on your computer.
These type errors usually occur with a Blue Screen on the computer, when a serious problem causes Windows 8 to shut down or restart unexpectedly.
There are multiple reasons why this
type of errors occurs on the computer.
They usually happen when there are some driver issues in the computer.
However, it might also be due to some other software/hardware reasons.
It would be great if you can let me know some information regarding this issue.
Please do answer to these questions for a better understanding.

1.       What is the exact/complete error message that you get? Are you able to find a Stop Error Code on the blue screen?
2.       What are the recent changes that you have made on the computer prior to this issue?

Let’s try out some basic troubleshooting steps and check if that works.

Method 1: Disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard)

I would suggest you to disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard) and then check if you are still have this issue.
This is to check if the issue is caused by any external
devices connected to the computer.

If the issue still persists, then you will have to create a bootable Windows 8 installation media and then perform an Automatic Repair.
In order to create a Windows 8 bootable disk, you may refer to the article: “How to
create installation media for a PC refresh or reset” from this link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

After creating the bootable disk, I would suggest you to try booting the computer using the bootable disk which you have created and then try the following methods to perform an Automatic Repair of the computer.

Method 2: Perform an Automatic Repair of Windows 8 using the installation media.

a)       Contact the computer manufacturer to know on how to change the boot order of the computer.
You will have to change the boot device to CD/DVD drive and then boot from
the Windows 8 installation disk.
b)       In the “Windows Setup” dialog box that appears, set the Time and currency format, Keyboard or input method and the language to install and then click “Next”.
c)       Click on “Repair your computer” from the lower left corner.
d)       From the “Choose an option screen”, click on “Troubleshoot”.
e)       Click “Advanced Options” in the “Troubleshoot” screen.
f)        In the “Advanced Options” screen, click “Automatic Repair”.
g)       Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Automatic Repair.

If the automatic repair did not work, then try the next method to perform a System Restore using the Windows 8 bootable disk and check if you are able to boot your computer.

Method 3: Perform a System restore and check.

To perform a System Restore, follow these instructions and check:

a)       Contact the computer manufacturer to know on how to change the boot order of the computer.
You will have to change the boot device to CD/DVD drive and then boot from
the Windows 8 installation disk.
b)       In the “Windows Setup” dialog box that appears, set the Time and currency format, Keyboard or input method and the language to install and then click “Next”.
c)       Click on “Repair your computer” from the lower left corner.
d)       From the “Choose an option screen”, click on “Troubleshoot”.
e)       Click “Advanced Options” in the “Troubleshoot” screen.
f)        In the “Advanced Options” screen, select “System Restore”.
g)       Follow the on screen instructions to restore the computer to an earlier state when the computer was working fine.

Now check if you are able to boot the computer successfully.

Important: The System Restore restores the computer back to an earlier point in time, called a restore point.
System Restore doesn’t change your personal files, but it might remove recently installed apps and drivers
and also reset the recently changed settings on the computer.

If the issue persists, please do get back to us with the troubleshooting results.
We’ll be glad to assist you further.

Windows Restore
