How Can I Fix - cannot delete email in windows live mail?

The other day I had an "oops,we have a problem" and windows live mail shut down,sent the error report and then restarted windows live mail.
When I got the original "oops" message,I had been reading and deleting emails (too quickly,I suspect).
When windows
live mail restarted,the emails that I had been trying to delete are back and now I cannot delete them..when I try,I get a message box "an unknown error has occurred".   I would like to be able to delete the emails.
Any help would be appreciated.
