Can't update (Error 80070652), Blue Screen, and (Error Code 646)

I've been trying to update my computer for the last couple of days.
I've had issues with it in the past but I wipe it cleaned and did it all over.
It was working fine until one day a "blue screen" then a restart.
That happened off and on for days.
During
that time my computer had a few updates and updated just fine so i thought until i looked at my update history and it has been failing off and on since 7/28/2010.
Last week on Thursday (up until now) it had some updates so i tried to update it like normal
and it keeps failing (Error 80070652) yesterday it said "security update for windows media encoder 9 series for windows" - vista KB979332.
I read on one of these microsoft sites to try to update it manually and it seemed to work until the pc had to restart
then the same thing only the updates went from (1 to 17 important, 1 optional) i tried to update it again still no luck, and now the errors include an (error code 646).
So i figured this is to much for me to do without direct help.
btw: i do plan to upgrade to windows 7, but I dont want to have the same problems then as well.

Method 2: Download the stand alone package of the updates that have failed to install.
Please make a note of the KB article number for the specific update which was failed.
Visit Microsoft download center and download the updates manually from the website.

Enter the KB article number in the search field and download the same.
Method 3: Run the installation
Once the download completes, click Run to start the installation immediately.
If you’ve saved the download, navigate to the location and run the installation from the source.

Run CHKDSK

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Restart your computer.
