Can't click some control panel links
I can't click some control panel links.
For instance if I goto Network and Sharing Center, I can't click "Choose homegroup and sharing options".
But other links on the page like "Set up a new connection or network" and "Connect to a network" work ok.
"Change
advanced sharing settings" link in the left hand panel on this screen also doesn't work, but the one above does.
This is recurrent through all areas of the control panel.
Some links work, others (for example "Adjust resolution" in Display) doesn't.
I'm not sure if it's connected, but if I right-click on the desktop and choose Personalize, I get the error "Explorer.exe No such interface supported".
Solutions to the Problem Can't click some control panel links
Hi -Nightshade-,
Since SFC scan didn’t come up with any inconsistencies, let’s proceed with next step of troubleshooting.
Try booting into
safe mode and check if the error occurs.
In safe mode only Windows components are allowed to startup.
If the problem disappears, then it's some installed product that's causing it.
Refer the following Microsoft article for more information on how to log in to safe mode:
Advanced startup options (including safe mode)
If the problem and the error message disappears in safe mode, the next step would be to boot into normal mode and put the computer in a clean boot state to troubleshoot the issue and subsequently identify the problem causing startup item or any other
third-party program.
To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.
This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.
If yes, you may have to contact the program manufacturer for any updates or uninstall and re-install the program.
Refer the following Microsoft KB article for more information on how to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Important After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned in
Step 7 in the above KB article.
Hope this helps.
