After installing Adobe flash player or reader, Internet Explorer 9 won't work.

Original title: Adobe Download Disabled IE9
Installed Windows 7 on a new SDD.
At that point IE9 worked fine.
During a download of Adobe Flash Player or Reader (I don't remember which one), Google Chrome was automatically installed and made my default browser.
During the process of uninstalling Chrome
I was asked if I wanted to make IE9 my default browser, so of course I said yes.
From then on IE9 would not work.
The window would open and the spinning icon at the left of the tab would just spin, and spin, and spin.
Tried uninstalling the IE update which
took me back to IE8.
Then reinstalled IE9.
It works now, but it takes several minutes to migrate from one web page to another - unacceptable performance.
Any suggestions?

If you are running adobe flash 11.4 there is a known issue with it crash IE.
The work around it to uninstall Flash using the uninstaller tool and staying on 11.3.
Now some have had luck with just uninstalling Flash and reinstalling back to 11.4.
