After installing 4 additional GB or ram, Windows tells me I only have the original 2GB. Why?

RAM problem

Hi,
I've just bought a new pc running Win 7 Ultimate with 2GB of RAM.
I have just installed a further 4GB of RAM to allow my kids to play games better and also edit videos and everything is running fine, but the pc only says that it has the original 2GB.
How
do I make the pc recognise and use the additional RAM please?
Many thanks for your help!

Keys to the Problem After installing 4 additional GB or ram, Windows tells me I only have the original 2GB. Why?

The first thing you can try is the memory remapping option in the BIOS and see if it resolves it.
If not, then its possible reason why its not seeing all 16 GBs of RAM is, either DIMMs not being seated properly or the motherboard having a few bent pins/not
contacting a few pins which result in the loss of memory.

I would try re-seating the memory modules and see if all 16 GBs shows up.

If you failed to fix it, another option is to call Microsoft and walk through the process with a technician. To do this, dial "1-800-936-5700". Explain the error that you received and the steps in the update process during which it was displayed. The technician will be able to walk through the steps from getting a new product key to finishing the installation.
