I have just purchased a wireless modem for my laptop and activated it with the company it works until i go to connect with the internet.
I rang them and they said it was an windows internet explorer problem.
The problem report : Access denied to system because of URL Filter Configuration
Message Id: Filter_denied
Problem description: your system was configured to deny access to the requested URL
Possible Problem: Request denied as specified in the local filter list configuration
Possible Solution: Contact your network support team if this problem persists.
I operate with Internet explorer 7

I had nortons as a trial version when I purchased the computer which i deleted.
Norton (and McAfee) applications are notorious for not uninstalling (or upgrading) cleanly.
NB: You will want to be connected to the internet directly (not wirelessly) via the router or modem while performing the Steps below.
1.
Download the Norton Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop:
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
2.
Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).
3.
Right-click on the file you saved in #1 above and select Run as Administrator to run the utility.
Don't TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot.

Reset IE8 Advanced settings now; see

- Go to the Start button.
- In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- Restart your computer.
